Environmental Science is an exciting and hugely relevant course that provides a detailed picture of our planet and our relationship with it: the living and physical environment, its biological and natural resources, and how these are interconnected.
Nowadays, we are all more aware of the need to protect our environment. This course will help you to develop the skills you need to engage in the hugely relevant and important dialogue around sustainability and progress. The course will appeal to students who enjoy a multi-disciplinary approach to learning and have a keen interest in the sustainability of our planet.
The A Level is assessed in June of the second year in two written exams. Each exam is worth 120 marks and lasts three hours. There is no coursework component.
The course has a built in unit on research methods. We make full use of our close proximity to the beach and the south downs to collect data and samples.
There is the opportunity to visit Marwell Zoo to gain more practical and in depth knowledge surround conservation and the role zoos play.
Environmental Science is a broad subject and is accepted by universities as a relevant science A Level. Environmental Science related degrees include those focusing on oceanography, geology, marine biology and zoology, though many fields benefit from the problem-solving and sustainability skills built throughout the course (e.g. journalism, sustainable civil engineering, urban landscape design).
Environmental experts are needed in business, industry and government as well as estate management, land reclamation, environmental surveying & policymaking, sustainability consulting, countryside management and conservation.
